This Capsicum frutescens comes from Venezuela and produces high yields of hot pods that ripen from light green over orange to dark red. Pods are ripe when you slightly press their stem and they fall off easily. Since this variety has a relatively early and good fruit setting, it’s a great alternative to Tabasco. Due to the numerous seeds inside the pods, they should first be cooked until soft and then passed through a sieve. Ají Cirel provides an ideal basis for hot sauces.
