Antillais Caribbean Habanero Chili Seeds

Antillais Caribbean brings together many of the characteristics associated with Caribbean chillies in one substantial red pod. Originating from the Caribbean region, it belongs to Capsicum chinense. Its wrinkled, broad fruits resemble the Habanero and Scotch Bonnet types and reach approximately 5 to 6 cm in length. During ripening they progress from pale green through shades of orange before finally becoming bright red.

The plants develop a bushy habit and can reach around 90 cm in both height and spread. Antillais Caribbean is capable of producing a generous crop, although patience is required. Like many Capsicum chinense varieties, it has a long growing season, making an early start particularly useful in temperate climates.

Its flavour combines serious heat with an aromatic and slightly sweet Chinense character. Interestingly, the characteristic Habanero aroma is considered less dominant than in some other varieties of the species. This makes Antillais Caribbean useful when substantial heat is wanted without an intensely perfumed Habanero flavour taking over the entire dish. Published heat ratings vary considerably between sources, so we deliberately avoid assigning the variety a single Scoville figure.

That balance gives the pods considerable culinary range. They work naturally in Caribbean sauces, stews and spicy marinades, but are equally useful for salsa and hot sauce. Mature red pods can also be dried and ground into a powerful seasoning powder.

Antillais Caribbean has earned recognition beyond the kitchen: the Royal Horticultural Society awarded the variety its Award of Garden Merit. Caribbean heritage, substantial red pods and intense heat are therefore combined with well-established garden performance.
