Giant Jalapeño Chili Seeds

Giant Jalapeño takes one of the most useful characteristics of a jalapeño and simply provides more of it: a substantial, thick-walled pod with plenty of room for filling. The elongated, blunt-ended peppers grow considerably larger than many traditional jalapeño varieties, commonly reaching around 10 to 13 cm in length. They are usually harvested dark green but mature to red when left on the plant.

The larger size does not change their fundamental character. Giant Jalapeño belongs to Capsicum annuum and retains the fresh, savoury flavour associated with jalapeños together with moderate heat. Published Scoville figures vary between seed lines and growing conditions, so the variety is better described as a medium-hot jalapeño than assigned one fixed heat rating.

Its size becomes particularly useful in the kitchen. The large pods are easier to open, deseed and fill than smaller jalapeños, making them an excellent choice for jalapeño poppers, grilling and baking with fillings. They can also be sliced into rings, pickled or used fresh in salsa and other Mexican-inspired dishes.

Allowing the pods to mature beyond the usual green harvesting stage produces fully red jalapeños. As they ripen, their flavour develops and natural sweetness becomes more noticeable. The mature red pods can also be dried or smoked.

Giant Jalapeño is therefore primarily a practical culinary variety. Rather than relying on an unusual colour or extreme heat, it offers growers a larger jalapeño with thick walls and plenty of usable flesh from each individual pod.
