Hallow's Eve Chili Seeds

Hallows Eve takes its name from a colour transformation that genuinely evokes Halloween. Almost black pods develop among deep purple foliage before glowing orange and peach tones gradually emerge through the dark pigmentation. As the fruits mature, they resemble molten lava breaking through a blackened surface.

This striking appearance comes from a deliberate cross between Bhut Jolokia and Pimenta de Neyde, attributed to British breeder Joker Chilli Farm. Both parents have left recognisable characteristics. Bhut Jolokia contributes the elongated, irregularly wrinkled pod shape and extreme heat, while Pimenta de Neyde is associated with the intense dark pigmentation.

The pods commonly measure around 3 to 5 cm in length, with a textured surface and often a pointed tip. Their flavour is described as rich and fruity, sometimes with subtle smoky notes. Heat reaches the superhot category, although published Scoville estimates vary widely between suppliers. No consistently verified heat rating is available for this particular cross.

Even before the first peppers appear, Hallows Eve has considerable ornamental appeal. Its dark purple leaves and stems give the plant an almost black appearance. As a Capsicum chinense, it requires warmth and a relatively long growing season. Starting seeds early and providing a sheltered growing position is particularly beneficial in cooler climates.

Fully ripe pods can be used sparingly in extremely hot sauces, marinades and chilli powders. Yet Hallows Eve is not simply another superhot pepper. Its dark foliage, orange-and-black marbled fruits and unusual breeding history make it one of the more visually distinctive modern chilli crosses.
