Large Orange Thai Chili Seeds

Large Orange Thai looks noticeably different from many familiar Thai chillies. Instead of producing masses of tiny, very slender pods, the plants carry considerably larger, elongated fruits. They begin green and mature to a vivid orange, creating an impressive display when large numbers ripen across the plant at the same time.

Flavour is another reason this pepper stands apart. The pods are described as fruity with a subtle sweetness, rather than being defined solely by the immediate burn associated with many Thai chillies. Their relatively thin walls make them suitable for drying, while freshly harvested pods retain an appealing crisp texture.

Large Orange Thai belongs to Capsicum annuum and has developed a reputation as a particularly productive pepper. In suitable conditions, plants continue setting pods throughout the growing season and can keep producing well into its later stages. Its precise origin is not well documented, despite the name and numerous seed sources associating the variety with Thailand.

The pods naturally lend themselves to Asian cooking. Sliced fresh, they bring both colour and heat to stir-fries, curries and soups. Their fruity character also works well in chilli sauces and sambal. Once dried, the orange pods can be stored whole or crushed into flakes and powder for later use.

Published heat ratings for Large Orange Thai differ remarkably between seed sources, so assigning the variety one apparently precise Scoville figure would be misleading. Its more reliable defining characteristics are its larger pods, vivid orange maturity, fruity flavour and notably generous production.
