With Tiger Anaheim Orange JC, the colour display begins in the foliage rather than the fruit. The plants develop striking variegated leaves with contrasting pale and green sections. Their elongated young pods show distinctive green striping before gradually changing to a rich orange as they mature.
The variety originated from the work of Danish breeder Jes Christensen, who crossed Purple Tiger with Anaheim Orange. This combination brought together two contrasting characteristics: the ornamental foliage associated with Purple Tiger and the elongated pepper shape of the Anaheim line. Botanically, the cross belongs to Capsicum annuum.
The pods are approximately jalapeño-sized, with an elongated shape and a rounded tip. Growers describe a slightly sweet flavour, sometimes accompanied by a subtle bitter note. Heat can be more pronounced than the original supplier descriptions suggest, with several cultivation reports placing it around 5 to 6 on a ten-point heat scale.
Reaching approximately 60 cm in height, Tiger Anaheim Orange JC remains relatively compact. It can therefore be grown in larger containers of around 10 litres or more. Fruit maturity is reported at approximately 70 to 80 days under suitable growing conditions. A warm, sunny position supports healthy growth and fruit development.
The orange pods can be used fresh in salsas, sauces and spicy vegetable dishes. Yet much of the appeal of Tiger Anaheim Orange JC comes from the plant itself: variegated foliage, striped immature peppers and a vivid orange harvest. As different breeding generations are in circulation, individual plants may show some variation in foliage patterns and fruit characteristics.
